L.A. Noire uses 3 discs on the Xbox 360 0

Police initially suspected a faulty airbag

Gamers are certainly getting their money’s worth with Rockstar’s latest creation, L.A. Noire. With over 50 hours of dialogue and motion capture data for over 400 cast members this is a huge game. It’s so big in fact that Rockstar were unable to fit it all onto the Xbox 360 medium of choice, one 7.95GB DVD. Rockstar have had to ship the title on no less than 3 DVDs for the Xbox 360. This is one title where the PS3 Bluray tech proves its worth for more than just watching 1080P movies.

Rockstar lead developer Jeronimo Barrera.
L.A. Noire was always going to be a massive game, from the size and detail of the world to the length of the cases, and of course, the sheer amount of MotionScan data required for the faces of over 400 actors in-game,”

To tell the story and make the game we wanted to make, we knew that it was going to take an entire single layer Blu-ray disc and three Xbox discs.

While it’s great that gamers will be getting a big bang for their buck, it throws up two annoyances on the Xbox 360 – the dreaded disc swap and a time-consuming install process. One saving grace is that the game will use the discs in sequence over the storyline, which will help help reduce the swaps. For those who install the game the 3 discs this will take the best part of an hour, and use up 20GB on the Xbox 360′s HDD which may be a problem for those with the original models. Despite this, Gaming Rocks would definitely recommend the install. Although gamers will still have to swap discs even with them installed, it will speed up the game tremendously and lead to less slow-down, glitches and tearing.
